... had a somewhat turbulent relationship. I plan an outdoor do at my house, she will respond with a torrential downpour... Every. Single. Time. I attend my son's soccer game to kick off Mother's Day weekend, and she'll have me sitting in the unexpected cold, soaking wet, only to trudge back to the car post-game through the thick mud. She hates me, my friends.
So it was only expected that she'd screw up the one day we were able to get out to do our yearly photos for our Eid cards. Cold, windy, and gradual sprinkling to full-on rain, we got it all. My hair turned flat within a matter of seconds and was constantly blowing onto my lipstick. Inaya and Nehan kept complaining of how they couldn't feel their fingers and poor Sumon did his very best to lug our equipment to and from our car each time we took a break to warm up and dry off.
But this is why hiring (or, in my case, being) a photographer is key! We always have a plan. Always. We can pivot when the weather turns on you, find the shady spots in the extreme sun, and quickly snap those precious photos when time is extremely limited. I made do with what little time we had, brought the family back to the car to take multiple breaks, and just said "screw it," to my hair. We made the most of the picturesque Scioto Mile promenade, right across from the Courthouse, and used the rainy, cloudy day to create an old-school Raj Kapoor - Nargis feel. Main na rehungi tum na rehoge, phir bhi rehengi nishaniya...
